Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS)
Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), better known as fibromyalgia, is a long-term condition that causes pain all through your body. Fatigue, mood disturbance, headaches, non-refreshed sleep, and cognitive impairment are common, It can affect both male and females, but statistically, it affects more women than it does men.
Although the exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, it is understood to be caused by a process called sensitisation resulting from different ways that the central nervous system amplifies and sends pain messages around your body and is associated with abnormal levels of certain chemicals in the brain. This condition can be triggered an infection, mental or physical trauma. The common theme is that patients have chronic widespread pain and other symptoms, but without apparent tissue damage or inflammation. It is believed to be inherited through genes.
